In this article, we invite you to delve into the art of tea, exploring its origins, its benefits, and of course, discover the refined teas and herbal teas that you can taste at Maison Majorelle.

The history of tea: a journey through time and cultures

The history of tea dates back more than 5,000 years to China, where legend has it that Emperor Shen Nong discovered its virtues after a tea leaf fell into his cup of hot water.

In China, Japan, India, but also in England, Russia and Morocco, tea has taken various forms and well-established rituals according to local traditions. For example, the Japanese tea ceremony is an art of living where each gesture is imbued with calm and serenity, while in Morocco, mint tea is a symbol of hospitality and conviviality as evidenced by our Marhaba tea ("welcome").

At Maison Majorelle , we draw inspiration from these different traditions to offer a selection of teas that celebrates the diversity and authenticity of the world's cultures.

Tea and its benefits: a healthy break for body and mind

Tea is not only delicious, it is also known for its many health benefits. Here are some of the most notable benefits of the teas you can enjoy at Maison Majorelle:

  • Green tea : Rich in antioxidants, it helps boost metabolism, aids digestion, and may have positive effects on the skin.

  • Black tea : Stronger and more energizing, black tea is ideal for starting the day. It contains flavonoids that help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

  • Wulong tea : Halfway between green tea and black tea, Wulong tea is renowned for its metabolism regulating and weight control properties. It is a tea that requires pre-rinsing before starting a first infusion.

  • White tea : The most delicate of all, it is rich in polyphenols and has anti-inflammatory properties, while being gentle on the stomach.

  • Pu'er tea: This aged tea comes in the form of compressed tea cakes. Often consumed for its digestive properties, Puer has deep, often earthy notes. Aging can be accelerated (Pu'er Shou) or done in a more classic way (Pu'er Sheng). This tea must also be pre-rinsed before tasting it.

  • Matcha Green Tea : This powdered green tea from Japan is known for its energizing properties and its positive effects on concentration and relaxation. At Maison Majorelle , we offer a premium matcha that combines quality and softness.

  • Maison Majorelle blends : Sometimes combined with plants and spices from other horizons, infusions provide a unique moment of relaxation and well-being. For example, cardamom, verbena, or fruit infusions such as citrus fruits are used in the exclusive Maison Majorelle blends . We invite you to discover our teas:

Voyage à Marrakesh : black tea, rose, cardamom and orange blossom

Après-midi au Riad : orange herbal tea, cinnamon, hibiscus

Marhaba : our ready-to-infuse traditional Moroccan tea

Balade en fôret : cedar, fir and Labrador tea

Kasbah Chic : white tea, rose and lemon verbena

In addition to the large selection of teas, there are also herbal teas that combine herbs, fruits or other ingredients without caffeine or theine. For example, there is Rooibos , a South African herbal tea with slightly sweet notes and a delicate taste.

In addition to the physical benefits, tea and herbal teas have a calming power on the mind. Having a cup of tea or herbal tea, especially in a quiet setting like our tea room, can create a real bubble of calm during the day.

The art of tasting tea and herbal teas: tips and tricks

To fully enjoy your cup of tea or herbal tea, there are a few simple rules to follow:

  • Water temperature : Each type of tea or herbal tea has an ideal temperature for its preparation. For example, green tea should be infused at a temperature of 70 to 85°C for the most part, while black tea generally requires hotter water, at 85-95°C. Respecting this temperature allows all the subtleties of each tea to be revealed.

  • Infusion time : Let your tea or herbal tea infuse long enough, but not too long! In general, black teas infuse for 3 to 5 minutes, while green teas should not infuse for more than 2 to 3 minutes to avoid a taste that is too bitter. While for herbal teas, they should often infuse for more than 5 minutes and even allow themselves to infuse throughout the tasting.

  • The cup : Using a porcelain cup allows you to better appreciate the aromas of the tea. Try to avoid metal or plastic cups that can alter the taste. Each moment leads us to a different choice of cup, sometimes we want a big comforting cup while at other times it is a more refined cup that we want to be able to taste all the subtleties of a tea or herbal tea carefully selected.
